| This page is for all you guys that I know I totally confuse every time I try and explain how our weekend went. Now that you can see a general flow chart of a Dog Show, maybe you will know what I am saying by, "We won our class, but didn't get Winners". I hope you can see the difference now between "Best of Winners" and "Best Of Breed" even though technically they can be the same dog if the judge determines the Winners dog/bitch is the Best of Breed winner... I have probably confused you guys even more and next time you should probably ask Larry! :) I will spare you my attempt at the point system, take my word for it, you really should see Larry about that one! hahaha |
| The Conformation Dog Show |
| Each Breed Competes among themselves in the Beginning. |

|
| The winner of each class goes in the ring together to determine Winners Dog/Bitch. The Winner leaves the ring and the dog/bitch who placed second in the class to Winners dog/bitch comes into the ring. The remaining Dogs/bitches compete for Reserve. At this stage Dogs and Bitches are not in the ring at the same time. |

| These Dogs/Bitches then compete for *Best of Breed *Best of Winners *Best of Opposite Sex. |
|
| The Points awarded are based on the number of Dogs/Bitches being shown in the classes. There may be more points awarded to the Winners Dog than Winners Bitch or Visa Versa. The Dog/Bitch that is awarded Best of Winners gets equal to the highest point value offered that day for their breed. |
|
| If Best of Breed was awarded to a Dog then the Best of Opposite will be a Bitch and visa versa. |
| There are four placements awarded in each group. The competition at this level is pretty strong so a Group Placement is a very big honor! The First place dog in each group then goes on to compete for Best in Show! |
| If you happened to look through the show records you will notice I included every show regardless of the results. Anything different would of seemed deceiving to me. You may have asked yourself how the results can sometimes be drastically different from one day to the next. Many factors come into play and can reflect in the results. *Every judge must judge the dogs presented to them that day, looking for the individual that best fits their interpretation of that Breeds AKC standard. We may not always agree with their choice, but it is the judges opinion we payed our entry fee to know. *Presentation is a huge part of Dog shows, both the handler and the dog can both have on and off days. There are days they strut into the ring with a "I am Here Look at Me Attitude", and others they simply go through the actions with a "I can think of other places I would rather be demeanor". *Weather conditions, travel times and show sites can effect a dogs performance in the ring. You should of seen Milly & I the first time she showed on a dirt floor and me with no mats! I honestly don't think that at any point she had all four feet on the ground and I can't do a straight line without mats, so don't ask me to do a triangle. Needless to say we both made quite the spectacles of ourselves. But it is a memory that evokes a smile every time. *We all love to win, but when you are in the ring with people and dogs you admire and respect it isn't necessarily difficult to pick up the second place ribbon or Reserve Winners. We often are in the ring with the same dogs and have been lined up in many different orders. *Finally and Most Importantly... You need to remember We leave each and every show site with the same dog whether they were Best of Breed or placed 4th in their class. Our Dogs are part of our family...Their value is not measured by Ribbons or Points! |
| No matter what the recorded results may be. I want you to know the " BEST IN SHOW" is going home with ME! |
