Milly Birch
Milly joined our family in April of 2004. She was 14 weeks old and
provided Tucker who is a month older a wonderful playmate.
Milly's ride home!
Milly at the park with Tucker!                                                         With the Easter Bunny!
We were very quickly made aware of a totally different version of basenji puppy behavior
than our sweet calm boy. Aside from a thing for plastic hangers and a pen from time to time
Tucker is not prone to destruction so we were a little off guard when we brought her home.
Miss Milly had a running tab in excess of $75.00 her first 24 hours in the house. The
battery charger for the camera included in the casualties.
Some of Milly's adventures have included..... walking the railing of our deck, painting her
own toe nails with Ashli's hot pink polish, (You can imagine what a mess that was!) She has
snapped the buckles on two collars and a flexi lead, almost causing me heart failure. (first
from the shock and then from having to track her through town.) She is also our resident
fence inspector! If there is a weak spot she will find it! Milly is very fast and she has a very
strong prey drive. She caught a rabbit in the back yard one day and lets just say the
neighborhood cats no longer use our backyard as a crossing zone. I was for sure I had a
natural lure courser only to realize she didn't find it thrilling to chase a plastic bag after
experiencing the real thing.
Milly is very much what people refer to as an Alpha bitch. Any female
dog she meets must be made aware she is in charge, especially if they step
onto her turf. She may look petite and meek but looks can be deceiving.
We were told we would have problems with Tucker accepting Presley, so we
were shocked when it was Milly who nailed the baby immediately upon
meeting. You will notice as you browse the rest of the site there are not
many pictures of Milly and baby Presley without Tucker in the middle.
They do play together now, but sometimes you get the impression Milly
isn't kidding when she says get out of my face to Presley.
After reading all of this you may be thinking how unlovable Milly is.
Well quite the opposite is true. Milly is very affectionate, especially with
her family. She wiggles every fiber of her body when we talk to her. When
she wants your attention she will paw at you. She loves to be held and
cuddled especially if it was her idea.
She is sassy, in fact she has been known to let out a single bark when
talked too. She will join in when everyone is singing (yodeling) but her
song is choppier and not quite as soothing and melodic.
Milly also loves to play. Stuffed animals are her favorite, in fact she has
MADE Toys out of a couple of pairs of the kids slippers. A lot of times she
will run to the toy box and grab a stuffed animal on her way out the door.
I periodically walk the back yard picking them up for the laundry.
When she is naughty she is very naughty. She can be spiteful if you
make her mad. But when she is good she is very good. She is a basenji
bitch! I sometimes think she will be our only bitch! hahaha

Our Milly.... She is spunky and sassy..... she is lovable and sweet!
With Larry the day she came
home.
One of my favorites of Milly
attempting to look innocent!
Being rocked while she recuperated
from umbilical hernia surgery.
